A look at the Bridal showers...

I was blessed enough to have two bridal showers: one here in Minneapolis and one in Northern Minnesota where I grew up.

The shower in Minneapolis was planned by my maid-of-honor, Brandi Skillings, and she did an astounding job. My friend Anya Naschak offered to host the party at her lovely appartment in Uptown (since Brandi lived in San Diego at the time). They decorated the house with balloons and streamers and made a "throne" for me to sit in. I even had my own bride-to-be tiara!

My throne!

After munching on such delectibles as Brie cheese and fresh vegetables, we played games. First we split up into two teams--friends and family--and each team had to draw what they thought my dress looked like. This was no simple task as I had my dress custom-made to interesting specifications, and no one had actually seen it. Then we played the write-down-everything-you-can-think-of-that-Sandy-needs-to-pack-for-the-honeymoon- in-a-minute game. This was an amazingly helpful game as I had not thought of packing things such as antacid for our trip to Mexico. After that, we played a rousing game of bridal pictionary where Brandi wrote down wedding related words (i.e. chapel, officiant, love, etc.) and we had to draw them out. Oh what fun we had (especially since I had two eight-year-olds and my grandma on my team!). After the games were over, we opened presents! Yay! I got such unique gifts as Married Love, a progressive book about sex and marriage written in 1919, a lovely handmade journal with pressed flowers on the cover, and a beautiful silk nightgown and robe for my wedding night. We had a wonderful time.

The second shower was held at the Pat and Charlie Ramos residence in Deer River, MN. Pat Ramos, my highschool choir teacher and friend of the family, graciously offered to host a shower up North for me. This was an unexpected and touching surprise. Since it was done on rather short notice two weeks before the wedding (and there was another wedding going on in Deer River the same weekend) the guests were mostly family. We had a lovely time. Pat provided a lovely spread of h'ours dourves: various coffee cakes, cheeses, fruit, and drinks. We also opened gifts and just had a nice time chatting and spending time with family.
